Vape and alternative nicotine products distributor Phoenix 2 Retail has teamed up with Arcus Compliance to launch the ‘Pre 2 Post-Market Compliance Testing Program’ to support and maintain standards across the vape FMCG market.
Phoenix 2 Retail claimed that it had identified a need for such a vigorous testing initiative after supporting a voluntary withdrawal of Elf Bar 600 disposable vapes by major FMCG accounts following a Daily Mail investigation, which found some products to exceed the UK Tobacco Products Directive filling legislation.
Chris Kelly, CEO of Phoenix 2 Retail, said: “Given the recent news hitting the vaping category, it has highlighted some areas we can improve as a sector. We believe that as a distributor of vaping products, we have a responsibility to help evolve and enhance the category.”
He claimed that the company had been “working tirelessly” to develop a programme that would give retail partners, brand partners and consumers confidence in the products available in the market.
He added: “The vaping industry is still relatively new, constantly evolving and developing. Vaping presents one of the most significant global public health opportunities, and we must continually strive to improve standards and policy.
“Working in partnership with regulators, brands and retailers, developing a pre and post-market testing program will deliver the improvements the market and the industry requires. Phoenix 2 Retail has taken the initiative to assist and lead the discussion and solution on how we improve and support brands and retailers in delivering a smoke-free future.”
Arcus Compliance CEO Lee Bryan said: “It’s been great to be involved in a project that will ultimately aid the entire industry as well as supporting the enforcement bodies by raising the bar in safety and compliance.”
